Day 3: Ride out of Seoul

We woke up the following day to real nice weather. I threw on my shorts and short sleeve cycling jersey which I would come to regret later. Michael mentioned that we are lucky to have clear weather because sometimes the air from China travels over lowering the air quality in Seoul. We left Seoul further and further behind and entered into the country side. The sight of tall blocks of apartment buildings disappeared behind us and farms appeared. It was pretty warm and I was getting burnt pretty good. However, I ignored it and continued on.

We stopped for lunch at Yangsu train station. There was a Chinese restaurant right out front of the train station run by Koreans who didn't speak Chinese. They had a set menu in English of several things so we ordered sweet and sour pork, chop suey and fried rice. It was 27,000 won. We went to the convenience store down the street to see if Tori and Sally could withdraw money form ATM but it didn't work. From Yangsu to Yangpyeong the trail went away from the river. Up to this point, there were small rest cafes and restaurants right along the cycling path but many were closed. I wonder if they are seasonal or only open on weekends.

Looking at the map, we saw that Ipobo had an established campsite along the river so we were planning to stop there. However, when we arrived the campsite appeared to be closed and we still had some daylight so we decided to move on. It seems like it is a seasonal campsite that may not be open year round. There was quite a long climb right before hitting Ipobo which was pretty challenging...we ended up pushing our loaded bikes up most of it. On the way down a collie started following us and it stuck with us for quite some time until we lost it around Yeojubo. It looked too healthy to be a stray but who knows, wish I could've taken it home with me! Right around Yangseon Park in Yeoju-gun it started to get dark so we started scouting a camping site. There were many people fishing the river and they had tents set up right next to the river so we figured it would be okay if we did as well. We scouted an area on the island with a toilet nearby so we decided to set up camp there.

We went into the town to look for a place to eat. We found a Korean BBQ spot and ordered a set dinner for 45,000 won. It was beef and pork skin. After stuffing ourselves we made our way back to the campsite for the night and called it.
