Day 1: Squatting at Incheon Airport

Boarding and flight from LAX to Incheon was uneventful. It was amusing to watch the counter people handling my bike bag at LAX. They were unsure of how to label and handle it. They put a big plastic bag over half of the bike, slapped on some fragile labels and then told me to drop it off at oversize luggage area. Since LAX is such a terrible airport and they are still working on renovations, we had to take a bus to the back part of the airport and board the plane in one of the isolated boarding gates. I sat next to an Asian girl who apparently was very sensitive to light as she politely complained to me that the reading lights I had on were distracting. I acquiesced and even turned the brightness level of my screen to the lowest level possible. However, even this was too much for her and she put the blanket over her head and slept for the majority of the trip. Upon arriving to Incheon Terminal 1, I picked up my bike at the oversize baggage section and then went through customs which was a breeze. I got special treatment since I had to go to a special oversize x-ray machine. The bike made it without any issue. After clearing customs I started to look around for possible places to squat for the night...the best I found was a bunch of seats near the check in counters that were already pretty full of squatters like myself. I found the quietest looking spot available and settled in for the night. Unfortunately, the airport was testing fire alarms all night so I didn't get much sleep. I wasn't expecting good sleep anyway but the fire alarm testing didn't help either.
