I am back after a long hiatus from cycle touring...this time I will cycle from Incheon to Busan. Korea has several well established cycling roads throughout the country mainly along their 4 major rivers. It is usually referred to collectively as the 4 Rivers Bicycle Roads. The 4 main rivers are the Han, Nakdong, Geum and Yeongsan...add a "-gang" after each one to pronounce it correctly (-gang is river is Korean). I am doing the ride with my buddy Tori and his fiancee Sally from New Zealand. Tori is a Pan-American vet and this is Sally's first cycle tour. I hosted Tori as a Warm Showers host years ago when he was passing through Los Angeles heading south.
Incheon to Busan is around 400 miles (officially listed as 633 km on the path), and we have 2 weeks to complete it. We are mainly following the Han and Nakdong River heading southeast out of Incheon to Busan. The first course is the Ara Bicycle Road. This takes you out of Seoul heading east. The next course is the Han River Bicycle Road which heads southeast into the mountains. The third course is the Saejae Bicycle Road and this section climbs into the mountains and then connects you with the final course which is the Nakdong River Bicycle Road. The Nakdong ends in Busan, a major port city.
There is a great article here that briefly explains the 4 Rivers Bicycle Roads in its totality.
Time for another one? We are going to Japan next year
